FAQ
Questions about Troy Index
What is Troy Index?
Troy Index is a price index for physical gold and silver. It reads the ask prices dealers publish, works out what each charges over spot, and ranks the same products side by side. It does not buy, sell, or hold metal. Nothing on it is investment advice.
Why is it called Troy Index?
Precious metals are weighed in troy ounces. An index is a published series of measurements. Troy Index measures what dealers charge for that ounce, and publishes it.
Is Troy Index a newspaper or archive site?
No. Other publications have used those words in their titles. This site compares what modern dealers charge over spot on coins, rounds, and bars.
How do you rank dealers?
By price and premium arithmetic only. Affiliate links cannot move a row. Conditions that make a price less useful — limits, payment-method discounts — are shown on the offer.
How do I keep your crawler off my site?
See /bot. Disallow TroyIndexBot in robots.txt, or write crawl@troyindex.com.
Is Troy Index the same as a troy ounce, or the Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index (XAU)?
No. A troy ounce is the weight unit. XAU is a different index. Troy Index is a website that ranks dealer ask prices for physical metal by premium over that ounce.
Is troyindex.com related to the TROY crypto token or NewspaperArchive?
No. Unrelated to crypto tokens and unrelated to historical newspaper archives.
